Celebrating Abilities
April 30th, 2010
|
|
Each year, P&A hosts a gala titled
"Celebrating Abilities: An Evening of Jazz an Art." The gala's purpose is to increase the visibility of P&A and to celebrate
the advocacy successes that have occurred throughout the year. The gala
features a live auction, silent art auction with artwork created by people
with disabilities, and live jazz. The gala will be held at The Meridian Building
in downtown Columbia on Friday, April 30,
2010.
Two vivid examples of P&A's accomplishments during the past year in advancing disability rights in South Carolina are:
In July 2009, P&A published "No Place to Call Home: How South Carolina
Has Failed Residents of Community Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs)."
This report resulted in extensive statewide media coverage.
In December 2009, P&A released "Policies and Practices on the Use of
Restraint, Seclusion, and Timeout in South Carolina Public Schools: A Cause
for Concern." South Carolina has no regulation or law to guide teachers or
protect children who are subjected to these practices.
With a deep appreciation for the financial stress
that many individuals, business owners, and organizations are enduring;
we kindly ask for your support as we continue our unique and vital work.
